“No Thirsty Thursday this week?!” “Four days WITHOUT my red solo cup?”
I know: Seems. Crazy.
Especially when college has been branded a time where you can do it all: eat, sleep, rave, and repeat. But I choose to accept the Live Free Weekend challenge because I believe it’s important to find ways to have fun with friends in a safe and healthy environment. Not all college students choose to drink, use drugs, or indulge in the hook-up culture that is rapidly dominating the way in which current generations socialize. I realize that for many of my peers and friends, this challenge extends beyond a mere 96 hours; it is a lifestyle. Participating in Live Free Weekend allows me to step into their shoes and learn about what it is like to abide by a personal choice that can affect important relationships with people whose beliefs are different.
You may think FOMO (fear of missing out) is real, but so is JOMO (joy of missing out). It’s even Google-able. A movie night, dinner with a friend, and even just a great conversation: all can be done sober, and all can offer great memories you’ll remember when the night is over.
